Hi Bob,

Thank you to all who responded to my listing for the "musty" R-4C. The odor from the receiver is definitely a "musty, damp basement (or other storage area)" type of smell. I have numerous other used pieces of RL Drake equipment and none has ever smelled like this R-4C. I presume the radio must have been in storage for some period of time before it was sold to me.

Well, I can say that I have had a similar problem with some test equipment gear. Only solution was to keep then running for hours (out of my shack, of course ;-) ) and with some extra forced air. That reduced the smell significantly.

All in all, there is an special smell to 'old electronics' that it is (IMHO) very nice... probably not your case.

Regards,

JOSE
