It would be wonderul to restore the manufacturing capabilities that produced
Drake, Collins, and other best-in-class products. Unfortunately, with few
exceptions those capabilities are gone. Those engineers and technicians had
ability and pride in their work. I too am always amazed when my nearly 50
year-old Drake 2B lights up, and functions as well as anything new off of
the boat.

While resetting my L-4B for 220v, I opened up the RF deck to change the
jumper settings and was - once again - struck with admiration for the
engineers at Drake who designed it and the technicians at Drake who built
it. As an erstwhile tech during the '60s, I know a work of art when I see
it and the underside of the L-4B's RF deck is a thing of beauty.
Every day I regret selling my 2B/2BQ back in 1978.
