Yes, you need a jumper cable if the 5-NB isn't installed.

It should be shielded wire or small coax, with Pin 2 the shield and Pin 4 the center conductor at both ends. Length isn't critical.

Those plugs can be very difficult to find. If you have an old octal tube base, you could steal a couple of pins and make a patch cable with just pins on each end, no shells, and fit it in place. I don't have a connector handy, and the pins may be smaller than an octal pin. If so, a short piece of brass tubing the correct diameter from the hobby shop could be used.
