That would be an interesting study, going stage by stage through the audio channel of a 4 or 7 series radio. I'll bet that when the R-4B was designed, the Drake lab didn't have such a piece of equipment and probably went by ear or visuals on a scope. Maybe someone familar with what Drake had to work with back then could shed some light on this.
