Seems I have to crank the GAIN up higher than on my T-4X as well. The transmitter is working great and is worth it for the usefully short delay on CW alone. I'll be checking the tubes at some point, as I'll have to remove the top cover to align it anyway.
That it matches my R-4B is bonus #1. That it has the same letter suffix (for the master osc characteristics) as the R-4B I'm going to keep is pure dessert. I had a similar experience many years ago on 10 with my old Heathkit SB-400 transmitter: no matter what I did, I was lucky on a GOOD day if I could get some 30-watts outta that rascal on 28-MHz, even with a fresh pair of properly neutralized 6146As. At one point I even went so far as to experiment with the inductance on the pi-tank coil, all to no avail. The T-4X is hardly that bad, but the output of mine is definitely slightly less on 10-meters than on others... ~73~ de Eddy VE3CUI - VE3XZ ******************************************************************************************************************* On 2011-10-01, at 6:00 PM, Steve Wedge wrote: I suspect I may have either soft driver or final. Just acquired a really nice T-4XB from a colleague on this reflector and it't a real gem. ten opened today, and I couldn't really get it over about 60W output. Somehow, I'm thinking this isn't too abnormal and I can get 100W out on 15. I seem to remember getting more out on my C-Lines in years gone by, but I may be fantasizing.
