Yes...you must cover everything. I use clean shop towels slightly wetted down then carefully remove them as to not spill filings.
This is true if drilling too.
Of course there is areas you can't cover, a powerful shop vac is the answer here.

Doesn't a dremmel tool "spit" a lot of filings around to get into and mess up
all types of switch contacts, shafts etc?

I like to remove mass by first cutting out the caps
mounting tabs from the
can with a Dremmel tool.  Then the remaining soldered
tabs are more easily
removed with a large solder gun.  Of course you don't
rebuild this can once
this is done.  If I rebuild a can I use a new old
stock one, maybe a 25 volt
one for the new caps case.

Bob,

Good feedback.  In retrospect, I probably should have
gone with either a 100
or 150-watt iron with the high mass shaft ahead of the
tip.  The perceived
size of these irons can be deceiving.  I was very
surprised by the weight
and size of the 200-watt Hexacon iron.  It's really
too large and heavy to
manipulate into small areas, especially where a lot of
circuit wiring comes
in proximity to the chassis can tabs.
