It's like any other open source project, you can find mainatiners who are 
interested. Distributions, Debian, Red Hat, would all help fixing bugs in the 
drivers they ship. That is no big deal IMO. The problem is none of these 
organisations can build a group of qualified people and find them enough work 
to justify employing them while the graphics card market consists of 3 cards, 
2 of which are closed and the other is "not sure".
