Dear Gareth and all,
I think that people need to calm down --- the issue of funding seems to be
in the forefont of everyone's mind. I'm just going to enumerate some things.
1) People NEED to work for a living. If thats working for VA or PI doing
open source DRI drivers or working for NVIDIA or SGI it doesn't matter.
2) People have no cause to feel abandoned. Experienced coders need new and
exciting challenges --- most OSF projects are done by people because they
want to: if they loose interest they no longer contribute and thats not just
the way it is but rather a good and neccisary part of the cycle. Rather take
this as a chance to dive into the code and get your hands dirty, thats what
the OSF idea is about.
3) Just 'cause its free do'nt mean people are on a free lunch. You can't go
round acusing people of lack of commitment--- if you have a problem with the
code dive in.
4) Who ever the people who are the guru's are (and this goes with every
project Ive ever mailed and asked about, living or dead) are ALWAYS keen to
help novices to get started, its just that they may not really want to spend
their time bahsing thier head against a brick wall to get the bugs ironed
out.
Andy
PS
I've posted some ideas about funding before, brian/gareth/daryll your lack of
response I supose is that there a bit daft?
