Just a thought, has anybody looked at getting numbers on how many folks
actually parted with money to buy 3-D hardware that was supported or at
the time would be supported by opensource drivers?

I've never sent in product registrations, but thinking back, I've spent
quite a few dollars on various 3d accelerators from various companies.
Specifically a good percentage of those dollars on various generations
of 3dfx hadware.

The purchasing decisions in all cases were made because open source
drivers either were available or were promised.  As primarily a FreeBSD
user, opensource was important in those purchasing decisions since I knew
I'd likely never see binary drivers for this platform released by any
company...
