OK, seems the majority has spoken on this. I have made notes of the possible confusion for MySQL users and added a requirement to the blueprint to create some documentation on this.

Also, added Jeremy's suggestion about the client hinting about non-integer ports.

Cheers all. Consider it open season on this task.

I'm going to half-jokingly suggest that the client can inform them of the problem in many case. Port numbers are usually numeric or that of something in /etc/sevices, right? Passwords are not.

However, I do agree that this might confuse existing MySQL users.
If we were to make this change, we'll probably get a fair amount of
inquires on the mailing list about how "-p" doesn't behave as people
expect. The reason that I'm agreeing with this blueprint is because
hopefully as time (maybe after a year of Cirrus release?) passes
it'll become common knowledge that "-p" in Drizzle is for specifying
the port like you would expect from many other server software.

I'm being optimistic here but thats my 2 cents.

    Cheers,

I've left the definition in "Discussed" status, and appended the
task to the Low Hangin Fruit milestone, which is the ongoing
"fix it if you can find time" milestone:

Please reply a +1 or -1 on whether this small usability change
        is a good idea.

        Cheers,

Use --port=9999, not -p 9999. The latter is saying you
will enter a password and want to use the "9999" database.
