I was the only active maintainer for MySQL in Gentoo that time, so the whole disaster is my fault. Trying to have multiple versions of MySQL on the same system, managed by only one package manager was stupid. Hopefully, I did also something useful, the eclass used is still mostly mine, and, with my retiring the managment is gone back to the more conservative and skilled Robin J. returning to a _much_ safer state. regards, Francesco (vivo) Riosa
