Hi Kiriaki,

I'll admit, I'm not an expert on all the ORCID plugin settings. I suspect
others who use it on a daily basis might be able to better answer your
questions (and they might be better asked on our Tech Support list,
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>).

If you are seeing errors in the logs, I'd recommend sending a snippet of those
errors to [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>.
Signup at: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Mailing+Lists Without
seeing a snippet of the error message, it's really hard to speculate if it's a
configuration issue, a bug, or something else. We have a guide for how to find
the exact error in your log files:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error

As for adding authors to the authority control that are NOT in ORCID, my
understanding is that's perfectly OK. It's listed as one of the "use cases" at
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/ORCID+Integration#ORCIDIntegration-DifferentpossibleusecasesforIndex-authorityscript
In addition, the "lookup" feature will search both in ORCID as well as in
your locally indexed author fields.

Hopefully that helps. If you have further questions, let us know. If I've
misstated any of these features, I'm hoping an ORCID expert can jump in here
and correct me.

Tim

Hi Tim,

Thank you for the prompt response.
Actually, ORCID integration is what I tried. I used SolrAuthority plugin to
create authority values for keywords, following the instructions on
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/ORCID+Integration#ORCIDIntegration-AddingadditionalfieldsunderORCID.
The repository I was testing on contains around 3000 items, so after running
index-authority script solr logs an error because of the number of values
found. Does this error sound like misconfiguration or plugin misuse?
Regarding ORCID *authors* authority control, is it a good practice to use
SolrAuthorAuthority plugin for thesis’ authors and examiners even if the
majority of the names in our repository are not registerd in ORCID and do not
have IDs?

Best regards,
Kiriaki

Subject: Re: [dspace-community] Requesting help to configure authority control

Hi Kiriaki,

Unfortunately, authority control is an area of DSpace that is still poorly
documented. I've just logged a new ticket around that here:
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-4005 (I'm hoping that someone on this list
might help us fix that and/or volunteer to share their own local
documentation!). I admit, I don't even have a clear understanding of each of
the configuration options...but, here's the basic documentation we do have:

High level overview docs:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Authority+Control+of+Metadata+Values

(Limited) docs of some authority control configurations:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Configuration+Reference#ConfigurationReference-AuthorityControlSettings

Additional docs on customizing submission pages (including using predefined
controlled vocabularies though, and not authority control):
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Submission+User+Interface#SubmissionUserInterface-CustomMetadata-entryPagesforSubmission

To my knowledge (and someone should correct me if I'm wrong), I don't believe
we currently have an option to allow submitters to select keywords based on
searching terms already used in the repository. There is such a feature for
*authors* (the SolrAuthorAuthority plugin), but it's primarily used by the
ORCID integration described at:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/ORCID+Integration

I'm hoping someone else here has more information, and/or can help us enhance
this area of the documentation. It's an area we could really use more community
contribution/support.

- Tim

Hello everyone,

Apologies for double posting, but this seems to be a more appropriate mailing
list for my question.

I am trying to enable authority control for a keyword field on DSpace 6.3 -
Mirage2 interface, but I am lost.
Could someone please guide me through the configuration? First of all, what
plugin should I select and configure?
The goal is to help submitters select keywords by suggesting terms already used
in the repository.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Kiriaki
