Tim Donohue commented on DS-980:
--------------------------------
Mark,
I've verified it is possible to do the following:
(1) Have 'dspace-solr-3.3.0.0' be a WAR overlay of 'solr-3.3.0'
(2) Still generate all of the proper 'dspace-solr.3.3.0.0' builds we require,
including:
- dspace-solr-3.3.0.0.war
- dspace-solr-3.3.0.0-classes.jar
- dspace-solr-3.3.0.0-javadoc.jar
- dspace-solr-3.3.0.0-skinny.war
- dspace-solr-3.3.0.0-sources.jar
So, I am still able to generate a "skinny war" from 'dspace-solr', despite the
fact that 'solr-3.3.0' itself is not a skinny war. The reason is that we've
still got custom pom.xml's in place to actually build this skinny war.
I'll commit my new version to
http://scm.dspace.org/svn/repo/modules/dspace-solr/trunk/ very shortly, so that
you can see how I did this & comment if you see any issues with what I've done.
So, I'll wait to actually release a 'dspace-solr-3.3.0.0' until you approve of
this change in how it is built.
I already tried testing DSpace with this new approach to building 'dspace-solr'
+ this patch, and everything seems to still work well.
> Upgraded solr & lucene to version 3.3.0

> Since DSpace is still using solr 1.4.x & lucene 2.9.3 I have created a patch
> that will upgrade these to version 3.3.0 (Lucene & solr have received
> matching version numbers).
> Since the dspace solr also requires a LocalHostRestrictionFilter I have
> created a dspace-solr module with version 3.3.0.0 at the following location:
> Because of the new dspace-solr module a local installation of this module is
> required to actually test the patch (once the patch has been tested this
> module will need to be deployed).
> Also a thing to note, the solr upgrade just required updating the poms, but
> for Lucene some code had to be rewritten some extra eyes on this wouldn't
> hurt (although the tests I performed have been successful).
