Thanks helix84 for confirming that deletion of blank values *might* be safe! I have not seen negative ramifications yet.
*Has anyone been able to reproduce the "broken" layout like I was*? I guess I can reproduce it at-will should questions arise later so I will probably remove the blank values in a few hours (restoring the normal appearance to the first example). Bram! Excellent to see these kinds of things were already acknowledged; we are clearly in close agreement so I have voted for your https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1685 task. However, even though DS-1559 shows itself fixed in v.4, I can reproduce the layout problem and the link appearance in our upcoming 5.5 installation. You and I seem to have clued into the same two problems (with slight differences in the first) and I would support either a task to keep blank values out (curation task vs. deletion at creation) or make the simple item view still more resilient to blank values.
