Hi,
It has just been brought to my attention that an item in our repository
that contains an accented character in the filename is not accessible in
our repository because the char/url is being mangled when the link to
the bitstream is clicked -
http://dspace.stir.ac.uk/dspace/handle/1893/50.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the "best" way to fix this?
I've had a few thoughts but also have concerns and definitely don't want
to totally mangle my repository!!
1) Simply change the title in the repository (perhaps by updating the
"name" in the bitstream table - I've managed to work out what the
"bitstream_id" is) - I have no idea if this would have devastating
consequences though!
2) Add another copy of the bitstream to the item, without the accented
char in the filename, using the "Add Bitstream" functionality and Remove
the bitstream that has the dodgy title - not sure though if the Remove
function will also fail because of the accented char(?), and I also
can't track down where in the asset store the actual bitstream is! Is
there any way to find out the path of the bitstream in the assetstore?
3) Do some reconfiguration magic so that the system becomes happy with
the accented char in the filename - the system seems happy with the char
in most contexts (it is stored OK in the database and accented chars
seem to work fine in the metadata) - it is only when the URL is accessed
that things go wrong - I didn't set up the Apache-Tomcat environment our
DSpace is running in (and I wouldn't know how to!), and I also don't
maintain the postgres system that our DSpace DB is part of, so I don't
know much about character encoding settings and related stuff (but
always willing to learn!).
If anyone out there has any insights, suggestions, pointers, etc, they
would be most welcome.
Cheers,
Mike
