Hello all, I am currently working on migrating metadata and items fron InMagic to Dspace. The XML generated by InMagic is not sufficient and full of ill-formed statements. I've made a report form that InMagic can generate in XML Dublin Core format and sparsed the file into multiple pieces. The main issue is when the record is almost complete, meaning there is a lot of data (18 different fields), the object won't import and a mapfile is generated but it is blank or empty. The XML is well-formed but there are some weird spacings.
The Batch Import command works just fine with other objects. The contents file, the object and the xml file are in one folder and the mapfile is put into a dedicated folder. Everything should be easy peasy from here. At first, I thought the import wasn't working because there was an '&' in the data but I fixed that and put in the appropriate coding. Still didn't work. I have tried a number of solutions. I have taken out each line of the metadata and tried to import the object and metadata and the mapfile is always empty/blank. I do not get any error messages and it always generates the empty mapfile. I have also done the reverse. The only thing I can see that isn't happening is that Dspace is not reading the metadata at all, as if would with other imports. I have tried to put barely no data in the xml file and the same result: empty/blank mapfile. I think I have come to the end of my rope. I have found some other issues like this in the archive but there doesn't seem to be a final workaround or solution. I'm not sure if it has to do with the object (I've also tried to change the object and the contents file, no success) or if it has to do with the construction of the XML file from InMagic. I have also fixed all the spaces and tried that and again: empty/blank mapfile. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions or knows what on earth is going on, I would greatly appreciate anything. I hope I have laid out this issue clearly enough :) Cheers// Stephanie Cann Digital Preservation Work Study Paul D.
