I would like to thank those who offered their help in this matter. I've solved the puzzle.
I figured out the solution today after following advice from Alvaro Sandoval, Susan M. Thorton and Mark H. Wood. The log file had no identifiable error. The output file only stated what it had said before that the item was entered into the particular collection that I assigned. The debug process that I did via the log4j.properties file, by changing the term INFO to DEBUG, produced no identifiable error. Then I realized that maybe the batch import function might tell me the error if I put the item folder with a batch of bitstreams I knew were accepted. I placed the item with the known acceptable bitstreams and I finally got an error regarding the metadata. I corrected the fields and the import worked successfully in the end. For the item import function to operate successfully require more than one item to import? What if you have a lone record with an XML file and you can easily make a contents note?
