To protect your data and DSpace setup.
I suggest the following:
1. Copy the contents of the "assetstore" to a another server location as a
backup. The assetstore location is normally #dspace.dir/assetstore. See:

2. Dump the contents of the database and copy that to another server
location. See:
http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/Disaster_Recovery/Backups/Local

Then you have backups in case a re-install fails.
