Hi Christian, 1) There's no need to recompile DSpace, just change the [dspace]/webapps/xmlui/i18/messages.xml (or messages_de.xml) and restart Tomcat. If it still doesn't display, try clearing Cocoon cache [1].
2) You can add your changes to this main messages.xml file even if they're for Discovery or any other module, it will work. It's as simple as that. Is there anything else I forgot to explain?
