Hello Michael, place your customizations in [dspace-src]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/webapp/[Path/Name] These will overlay the sources in [dspace-src]/dspace-jspui/src/main/webapp/ Then do the build and deploy.
If some of your previous changes seemed to have no effect, maybe you had some things in the dspace/modules and some in the dspace-jspui.
