That will not work. You have to have a GPS that has a true NMEA output.
The USB port is meant for moving maps and waypoint data back and forth
from the GPS and a computer. It will not function as you're wanting it
to.

[ED - I think you will find that it is cheaper and easier just to find a GPS 
that has a serial port, Google around a bit and you should find something that 
will work just fine.  Jon is correct what you are attempting will most likely 
not work.]
