I need help with using the OPC478UC drivers.

I have installed and uninstalled these drivers at least 6 times on 2
different machines running 2 different Windows OSs(2000 Pro and XP
Pro)within the last 2 hours. I cannot get it to work to save my life.

I have followed every step ICOM outlined to the letter. To my utter
frustration all I ever get is the Question Mark in the Windows Device
Manager saying it has no idea what the heck the cable is I am
installing. Furthermore it gives no ideas on where to begin
troubleshooting. ICOM's only troubleshooting device is to uninstall
and reinstall until it works. Brilliant engineering if I do say so!

Given I have just moved and I need to reprogram my radios I'd really
like to get the issue fixed. In lieu of that I might offer the 2
ID800s I own as clay pigeons because frankly after yet another
frustrating attempt to get Windows to do something useful and failing
I really see no reason to keep a radio which I cannot program without
software. (For those saying do it by hand by all means I have roughly
150 memories to put in for 4 states into 2 radios because I travel in
my car a lot for work and personal reasons. So I welcome someone who
wants to do that.)

Any, ANY ideas on how to convince Windows that these drivers are
viable would really help! Any ideas on how to even begin debugging
this issue would really help.

Oh and yes the software worked exactly once in the couple years I have
owned this radio with a Windows laptop. The other time I had tried to
deal with this issue, I simply gave up and found someone local who had
the same rig and software and we built a joint file since we both used
the same machines a lot. Given I have moved that is not viable anymore
sadly.

Thanks es 73
