Hey Ken, Motorola obviously hates testing in Florida.....
If they would test systems here, they just might make a better
product, especially if they would test it in the Spring and Summer
times.... Lazy Blue Book pencils without erasers....
Heck I am former Moto Tech and I still test radio systems when it's
the worst time to do it, that way it works better when it should not,
and even better when it should. It's FUZZY MATH.

That's why 800 Mhz fails like it does, test it in the fall deploy it in the
winter
and come spring it works like crap.... why? Did I mention Spring???
Less foliage in the fall and winter then in the spring... and in the summer
time, PINE TRESS become 800Mhz RF gobblers.... sap suckers. LOL

I guess they will never learn.....STILL YET..

LOW speed data does not have the FEC in it as it is interlaced with the
voice packets... High Speed Data however will have correction within it
being TCP/IP. So yes, correct, Low speed NO, High Speed YES.

Evans:

Thanks for the informative and thoughtful reply. I have looked at the rigs
and repeaters with the high data rates and I agree that is the way to go.
Unfortunately I live in Pittsburgh PA and this is one of the two places that
Motorola goes to test new equipment because if they can get it to work here
anywhere else is a piece of cake coverage wise.

My son, KD7YMP, lives in Pahrump NV where he sits in a bowl and is
surrounded by very high mountains. It would be an ideal place for 1296 on a
mountain top covering the entire area. I don't know if we could get away
with that here. If would could I would love to get involved with that types
of data rates that you are describing.

I read somewhere that DStar has no error correction that it is just a spits
out the data and the application has to deal with it. I take it you can do
TCP/IP over DStar since you are accessing the Internet? I guess I have more
to lean. Perhaps there is a DStar radio in my future.
