Since having a gateway is my main interest and reason for setting up a
repeater, this is a very important consideration.

Which ports are required? Is there any way to check this out, short of setting
up a linux computer, installing the software and testing it? I'm thinking now
that this might be the most important step. And I'm about 99% sure that if I
called my provider they wouldn't have a clue what I was referring to. I had
the same problem when I set up my IRLP node. None of the providers understood
anything about ports and port forwarding. ;-)

BTW, where does one apply for a D-Star Callsign? I have seen references to
this but can't find anything on the FCC site, requiring obtaining a D-Star
callsign. And all the web sites (few that they are) talk about "clubs" getting
a callsign. Can an individual, without a club, get a D-Star callsign. I
assume "yes" but can't find a link for the application.
