I did not miss a thing, Is a ham talking to a ham at a field day;
amateur radio? Voice to ear and no rf?
When you connect to a reflector or gateway you may get involved in a qso
with various hams using different devices.
If you and I are having a qso both using dv dongles and we talk about Q
and it´s implications in a input tuned circuit,
then was that a good qso or a qso at all? My point is with the DV
Dongle, you are still talking to hams and a signal is still being
transmitted via rf somewhere, whether you need it or not to hear me.
In that sense then if you can jump on your dstar radio and link to the
reflector I am on with the DV Dongle, that makes the qso better than if
you just stayed on your dongle on the reflector?
I agree that solely using a dv dongle, without any other radio equipment
whatsoever is neglecting the nature of the hobby.
However you will find most of us turn up on different devices for a qso
all the time without any thought to how that affects our qso.
