Well, I'm on a 300ms ping to that machine so it does add to my latency a
little, but my measured
up/down speed on that box is 3 megabytes/second, so it kinda overwhelms my
little ADSL in any case.

I can download large binaries through that box at full wire speed.

Skype takes a *little* longer to log in and respond to events, but as eim only
appears to be
blocking the login servers, voice traffic is unaffected.

I just get narky at services being qos'd to death, or being blocked completely,
or eim just plain
buggering up their routing tables.. they are the least reliable isp I've ever
had the displeasure of
dealing with.. and now, as long as I can route a single IP address, I'm no
longer affected.

Having said that, I'm in Qatar right now, and my udp OpenVPN tunnel is slow and
flaky (they choke
udp something chronic here), and I have to use corkscrew to push ssh over their
http proxy as they
seem to block that also.. so perhaps we don't have it so bad after all :-\

Interesting note.. was at the airport this morning, and noticed that while DIA
blocks web traffic,
redirects you to their servers and requires you to pay to use it, ssh and vpn's
just worked.. so
once we told firefox to use a proxy within the vpn we had unrestricted web
access..

And here was I thinking I was going to have tunnel TCP over either ICMP or DNS..
