There are many others on this forum that are alot more versed with what's happening "under the hood" but your first statement is correct. The user (you) selects what to hear from LMS. This can be via a user interface on a player, a phone/tablet app, or the LMS control panel (or material skin), etc. Since LMS is the server, it processes this request, and acquires/creates/directs the stream to the selected player. If it's just your local music library, it accesses the file (on your computer, NAS, HDD, etc) and sends the stream to your player. If it's an internet radio stream or a service (tidal, spotify), if accesses the internet through your ISP to acquire the stream, and sends it to the player. LMS privides the atream to be played, the player receives it, buffers it, and plays it.
so, physically, with internet radio/tidal the signal/data comes from your isp, through your internet connection, to your modem/router, to your LMS, to the player. Each of these could be a contributing culprit to problems experienced. In addition, like anything, what also comes into play is how the device (your router, player, etc) handles/recovers from exceptions/interruptions. I mentioned struggling with a receiver wifi setup for a friend, where eventually a touch worked fine. Was it his crappy dsl isp? His isp provided router? His weak wifi due to router location? The receiver? Are the problem(s) still there but the touch recovers better? I'll never know because he is not technical, nor patient, and he lives 250 miles away :) Jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111743 _______________________________________________ Duet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/duet
