As was already mentioned, we should by no means alter the solution values in 
the output routines or cut of the values anywhere to fit within some physical 
range. I think that our customers should be able to deal with saturation values 
like -1e-14. 

I agree that we should not accept unphysical solutions violating a rounding 
errors tolerance as a converged solution from the Newton method. Since we 
should not undertake an effort for an empty set, can someone please come up 
with a case where this happens?
