For example, we could write a general routine as part of the NewtonController, which checks each solution value whether it is within the range of validity. For each model, we could specify a default range of validity for each variable. This can be overwritten via properties/parameters by the problem. We would have to think a bit on how to properly do this for the variable switching models.
