I re-checked the Microsoft Office updater site last nite. There are 3
update packages available. The one I tried a few days ago was called the
'combined' updater. Another updater is a PowerPoint and Word only updater.
I successfully ran this smaller updater. Then I retried the 'combined'
updater, and this time it ran successfully. The end result is two old
versions of Word and PowerPoint in the trash and a newer version (still 8.0
but with a larger serialized number after the version number). So it
appears you have to run them in that order to be successful. That would be
nice information to include in the directions.
