>even though my 2400/180 has been through the mce cardbus activation, cardbus
>support is still a little spotty. with my macally cardbus usb card,
I must say I am very pleased with the MCE cardbus activation. At home I
use the USB cardbus with my Epson Stylus Color 800 and with a USB Iomega
250 Zip. Although I do have to be careful to eject the Macally card and
the zip upon restart I am finding USB miles ahead of using a zip and the
Epson Stylus Color 800 via SCSI. With SCSI the Stylus 800 rarely worked,
even with the latest drivers, and the SCSI Zip often would not show up on
the desktop, even using SCSIProbe, or would fail. I have, however, been
able to use my SCSI Apple CD Drive and a SCSI Sony CD Diskman without
difficulty.
I also like being able to hot swap the card since I can connect to my
office appletalk network with HP Deskjet printers, several pre PowerPC
Macs (including an accelerated MacPlus) as well as several PowerPCs, a
2300 with a MiniDoc and a G3, without having to restart.
The only problem I have had since the cardbus activation is that I have
been unable to use Ethernet with my Global Village PowerPort Pro PC Card
with Ethernet. Prior to the upgrade the Ethernet Connection with the GV
Card worked fine; afterword only failure. I have tried everything I
know, including reinstalling the GV Software, without success. At this
point the only reason I need ethernet is to connect to an iBook with a
crossover cable; I use infared to sync with the origional iMac-always
works. However, since I use my 2400 as my primary computer this
problem has prevented me from seriously considering upgrading the office
network to ethernet. If I can't solve this ethernet PC Card problem my
office network with remain frozen in time until there is a new Apple
Subcomputer as good as the 2400. That is not a serious problem right now.
