It looks like the problem is somehow caused by the Asant EN/SC driver.
That's the only thing I added yesterday and I've found it directly the
problem with the hard disk that is reported to be off. As soon as I switch
AppleTalk to LocalTalk (Printer Port) over "Alternate Ethernet" (provided by
this Asant driver), the hard disk icon on the control strip changes to show
that it's actually spinning. As soon as I switch from LocalTalk to Alternate
Ethernet, the hard disk icon switch and is reported to be off. And after I
did switch to LocalTalk, I didn't experience the problem anymore. I'm
guessing that it may have something to do with the driver not compatible
with the processor cycling, which is maybe (I'm still learning how
PowerBooks work), but I think that once the screen has dimmed, the next
logical step would be the processor cycling slower. If I'm wrong, I'm sure
someone will correct me!
Anyway, I'm still experiencing. But, if anyone has any experience with the
Asant EN/SC ethernet adapter, please, post to the list. BTW, I've
downloaded the latest driver from Asant's web site. It seemed pretty old.
If someone knows of a place to get a more recent driver, let me know. I
should finally add that this driver was not really for the EN/SC adapter I
have, but for a similar, more recent model, as the pictures of it didn't
look really like the one I have (which must be an older revision).
