I remembered reading about something similar at Asant�'s site.  Here is a 
quote:

"Troubleshooting Information (Note: This information may only apply to the 
part no.s listed above.) 


Summary:
Sleep Mode and EN/SC Family

When running Open Transport and the Sleep Mode, the Powerbook will not wake 
up after going to sleep. Must reboot the system.

Solution:
The workaround is to run only the Classic Appletalk Networking option. 
To do this:
1. Go to the Apple Extras folder on the hard drive.
2. Launch Network Software Selector.
3. Choose the Classic Appletalk option
4. Quit the Network Software Selector application and reboot."
