Tom,

Please don't take it personally or do not believe for a moment that I
think you're dumb. I just meant to say that I don't like pine for the
simple reason that as a system administrator I've always found it a
pain to compile the source and set it up, mostly on a IBM machine
where it took me several days to get it to work properly. May just be
me, but that's my personal experience. I'm not too fond of pico
either, I just use emacs or plain vi. But if you tell me that vi
sucks, I won't complain, there's some truth in it anyway.

If pine suits you and/or your situation, that's fine with me. I've
set it up and used it for years, at least it's better than the mail
UNIX reader. I am a Mac person, but nevertheless I spend hours typing
away commands at UNIX terminals, and I enjoy it much better than
resorting to system administration utilities like Sun's that simply
don't work. But my mail needs are better served with Eudora at
present. I can and still use plain text as my mail format anyway.

As for the SSH bit, you are right in every way ---although encryption
can also be cracked if the hacker is well enough informed---. But I
haven't succeeded in convincing my boss to pass out on telnet for
now. So I just disabled telnet for every compromising machine and
from every compromising domain and that's the way it is for now.
Although with hackers popping up the way they are, I've already
disabled the mail port for all of the machines except the mail
server, so eventually we will go the SSH way.

I'll second that notion, with the addenda that I'm always ready to
get into friendly discussions: I always learn things from them and
that's the main purpose of a mailing list. But I refuse to get
involved in flame wars and such, they're simply a waste of time and
bandwith. I think you agree with this.
