I recall my Duo2300's 750MB drive being 17mm high. Speaking of kludging, I
had attempted to install an 8.45mm Toshiba drive in the Duo a couple months
ago. Unfortunately I could never use the drive as none of my drive utilities
could "see" the drive.
I learned that the screw holes for mounting brackets had been pushed out
towards the ends of the drive in order to make these drives even thinner. It
certainly works given that the Toshiba drive was half the height of the
original.
I managed to "install" (using that term loosely) the brackets on the side
with good ol' zip ties. Not pretty but it held together snugly.
BTW, I found out the drive was bad after all for those of you who remember
that attempt and tried to help me. After letting it sit around for almost 2
months I sold it to a guy for his Windoze laptop. He told me his drive
utility didn't "see" the drive either. I got an RMA number this week and I
getting it fixed or replaced, YEAH!
