Not necessary.  Power manager reset just needs the power button pressed for
the requisite time.  Service manual says that if that doesn't work, THEN
remove all power sources and let it sit.  The idea that one must also do the
power button thing and have the power sources removed is based on the
experience of some users.  My guess is that even after sitting w/o power,
the power manager's memory can still exist, although with some charge bled
out.  Doing the power button thing at that point then bleeds off the rest.

This is just a long way of saying that it is most convenient, when you have
a problem, to simply to the power button thing and see if it works.  You
won't waste that much time.  Then if it doesn't, you go to the "remove power
sources for a while" (service manual says 10 minutes, but I'd guess several
hours would be more appropriate, and some say 24 hours minimum), at which
point you might as well hold down the power button for about a minute before
you try putting power back.
