$10 doesn't sound too unreasonable considering someone
had to make up mechanical drawings and then contract
the fabrication, most likely in quite small batches.
The materials aren't much, but the overhead is high. I
believe PowerBook Guy also has the brackets, I don't
know how much he's asking.
As for jury-rigging (etymology in dispute, American

improvised rigging on a ship, modeled on jury-mast
temporary mast, perhaps ultimately from Old French

to jerry-rig because of similarity to jerry-built,

people have suggested using ties, I've wondered about
double-sided foam tape applied to the original
brackets. It seems like the sticky stuff wouldn't harm
the sides of the drive, while the stickyness and
compression would keep the drive firmly supported. The
only thing that concerns me is if the drive needs to
conduct heat into the magnesium frame, which the tape
would insulate.
