I just wanted to comment on one possible thing that can go wrong when
taking the motherboard out of the Duo. I recently bought a 280c on eBay
for $63 because it was advertised as "won't startup-parts machine". When
I got it I took it apart and after much head scratching I discovered
that there is a small strip of electrically conductive foam material
that is stuck to the metal stiffener. When the machine is assembled it
is supposed to lay on top of the PDS connector's shell to connect that
shell to the stiffener. Well, in the machine I had just bought, someone
had apparently had it apart and the piece of conductive foam was
mis-positioned and partially laying on top of some of the 152 PDS pins!
I repositioned the foam properly and the machine booted up and has
worked great ever since. Who knows how it got mis-positioned in the
first place. It has an adhesive backing to hold it in place but for
whatever reason, it had moved or been misplaced. Hope this may help
someone sometime. Also, there are at least two more small pieces of
conductive foam in the 280c that connect the motherboard to stiffener (I
think) near the main battery terminal (5 pins/tabs). Be sure that they
are there and positioned properly. Actually, one of my duo's is missing
one of those pads but it does not have any affect I can tell.
Greg
