I'm not certain about the 2400's internal structure,
but my Wall Street had this problem and it was caused
by the power connector "barrel" itself loosening from
its circuit board because of excessive plugging and
unplugging of the power adapter (I have several and
one requires significant force to unplug, usually
resulting in lateral stress on the connector). On Wall
Streets the power connector is on a separate board
which also has the sound i/o circuitry, and this board
can also work loose from the board it plugs into even
though secured by a screw.
The short-term solution is that the power adapter plug
needs needs gentle upward pressure externally to
maintain contact internally. The long-term solution is
a new power/sound board which I acquired several weeks
ago for a good price on eBay and am currently working
up the courage to install.
