Subject: [Duo2400] GV 56K V.90 PC Card CD information
Dear DuoListers:
Last week I ordered a New Global Village 56K V.90 PC Card from Small Dog
Electronics; one of the few remaining anywhere. When the shipment
arrived last Friday it contained the 56 Kbps v.90 PC Card, a Users Guide
and a dongle. There was no CD containing modem and fax software in the
box. I contacted Small Dog and they said they would order a CD for me.
Today I received an email from Small Dog saying that the CD with the 56
PC Card and fax software is no longer available. They said they have no
way of obtaining the CD so they have offered me a full refund.
For the past several years I have been using a GV Powerport Platinum Pro
PC Card with Ethernet. At my home the Platinum Pro PC Card is more than
sufficient since downloads and uploads are as fast as the 56k modem in my
iMac given the poor quality of the phone lines. However, at work and at
several other locations where I often connect the phone lines are far
better so a 56k modem is a real advantage. My plan is to continue to use
both. The GV Powerport Platinum Pro PC Card now provides a good Ethernet
connection at work and sufficient connection speed from my home. I must,
however, have the GV 56K v.90 software to be able use the new 56k v.90 PC
Card Modem.
My questions concern the modem and fax software for the GV 56k PC Card.
Can anyone tell me what is included on the GV 56K PC Card CD? Can the
software that came with my GV Powerport Platinum Pro PC Card be updated
through a GV site download to work with the GV 56K PC Card? What I have
found on the Boca GV site are updaters? Can I get by without the GV 56K
PC Card CD? As a last resort can anyone suggest where I might locate a
CD for the GV 56K v.90 PC Card?
I will hold off getting back to Small Dog until I get some feedback.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
Stan Bratton
