This is on the current topic but wrong machine. I need help though.
I have a GV Platinum Pro 28.8/ethernet card that I'm using in my 1400. The
Ethernet works great but not the modem. It reports that it could not detect
a dial tone.
Quick (yeah right) history:
I bought one on eBay. Received it. Wouldn't work. Showed up on desktop but
it reported that it could not locate modem. I could select alternate
Ethernet but I could never "see" other Macs or my Ethernet printer (nor
could another Mac see me). I also could not update the firmware.
The seller exchanged it for another. This one allowed a firmware update. The
Ethernet is great. I can select the modem and I'm able to choose all the
correct settings. It just keeps telling me it cannot detect a dial tone (at
work or home on a line I use for an external modem). I've tried all the GV
scripts that installed.
I've done a clean install of OS9 and the GV install only. Same results (I'm
back to running 8.6). BTW, I cannot use the GV Enablers 1.0.7 updater with
OS8.6 or 9. It always reports that my PowerBook model does not need it even
though other 1400 owners have indicated they could run it. I wish there was
someone in Indy who I could have test it for me.
I would send it back to the seller except he offered a full refund or a one
time exchange. I went for the exchange.
Could it be the Dongle (Clyde...Dumb name)? Could it be my PCMCIA card
slots? Could it be...ME...naaaa!
Any ideas would be most helpful.
I'll make up for it buy giving away free Duos...naaaaa. Just plenty'O'Duo
advice.
Thanks! -makmac
PS. Could I test it in a Windoze laptop? Would I have to get the right
software for that?
