That is exactly the problem. RAM. Or rather, a lack of it. Minimal install
of 7.6.1 still takes 4MB. Add an application (BBEdit Lite) and a file, and
there goes half of my meager 12MB RAM. It would not be so bad I suppose if I
were to avoid making the RAM disk persistent. I am trying to get more RAM,
but in a frugal (cheap) manner.

As for confidence, I am OK with running a simple text editor under this
system . For my intended use, if it is to be a choice between the ultra lean
1.2MB disk tools system and its associated message, or no message and a
bloated 4MB system ...   ;)

I kind of figured the modem was a show stopper. I was hoping that there
might be a cell phone that would allow for analog input, not caring about
the source.
