Andrew,

I would imagine that you would probably have to make a minimal system using
the system installer of the MacOS. The one you're using from the floppy has
definitely been modified to fit on a floppy and it detects when it's used
from any other support. Besides, I would feel more confident to use a
minimal system that I did configure properly to use on my computer, not this
reduced version. However, you might have to increase the size of the RAM
disk to make it fit...

The internal modem cannot be used with a cell phone. The data capabilities
of cell phones were not very mature at the time the 280c was introduced. One
of the limitation of the 280c is that it uses a proprietary interface for
the modem, so there isn't any other alternative, beside the Global Village
PowerMercury Bronze (I think) which is a 19.2Kbs modem, without any cellular
capabilities. Sorry...
