It's good new day today. Everyone who has a Duo chime in this weekend and gives us a brief report of how you faithful little machine has been treating you! I love a good warm'n'fuzzy story every now and then. Here's mine. Currently I have a sweet Little Duo230 that sat in a box for over a year at a computer recycler. Cold, abandoned, and huddled with several of it siblings, it counted the days waiting for someone to come along and love it. The cold corporate environment that it came from was still a stinging memory. How could they desert him after so many years of good service? Then one day a handsome prince (OK, cut me some slack) came along. While the handsome prince was wading knee deep through mountains of PC junk (a fitting end for a Wintel device) it came across this box of PowerBook refugees. There were 11 of them in all. The handsome prince was moved and took them home with him. There he took them from the cold box and started to care for them. Five of the PowerBooks were from the family of 100s. Four of them beyond repair due to obvious falls from high places. "Those wicked corporate types" thought the prince. "How could they be so careless with such wonderful computers". The prince was heart broken but he knew that even in their current condition they could bring life to others of their own kind. So he offered them to other Mac lover in the great land of eBay. Happily they found new homes. Their still functioning sister, PB145, also found a new home with a loving family in the great land of eBay. The remaining PowerBooks were from the sleek, svelte, highly intelligent family of Duo. The handsome prince careful took them out, one by one, and dusted them off. At first he was happy to see that they all looked to be in good physical condition. However he was saddened when he opened up the screen of the wisest of the Duos, the 2300. It's screen smashed [sniff]. Still he cleaned and fed it (OK he plugged it in) because as we all know, a Duo may be down but it's rarely out. He tucked the 2300 in to a warm, cozy, DuoDock and tapped on the Power key. The 2300, after sitting silently for so long, sang out with a sweet startup tone. The prince was overjoyed. "There is hope for you yet" he said. Then he moved on to the other 5 Duos. After cleaning them and offering them food he found that only one other, a Duo280c had passed on. After a moment of silence he thought, "you shall not have died in vain". Carefully he removed the screen and installed it on the 2300. Although it was a bit smaller, the 2300 could once again share it's wisdom with the rest of the world! The rest of the little Duos, a 280 grayscale, two 230s, and a 250 all started up after some nurturing by the handsome prince. The 2300, 250 and one of the 230s found homes with new owners from the great, wise, and oh so intelligent land of DuoList. The dwellers of the land of DuoList know the endless potential of the wonderful little Duos. They happily welcomed them into their homes with open arms. The little Duos were once again leading happy and useful lives with masters who cared about them. Then tragedy stuck! The Duo280 grayscale, it seems, had a loose screw (literally). While the handsome prince was moving the poor Duo the screw dislodged and came into contact with the power supply inside. There was a whine, a tiny trail of smoke, and the terrible smell of burning circuitry. It happened so fast the handsome prince was could not save the poor Duo. "Damn those corporate types" shouted the prince. "How could they drive a poor Duo to the brink like this and them shove it away in a box". he was deeply saddened once again. "You will not have died in vain little Duo" said the handsome prince (the name's starting to grow on me). "Like your brother the Duo280c, you will not have died in vain. I will offer your parts to the dwellers of the land of DuoList so that they may bring life and longevity to other like you. There will be great rejoicing when your parts bring life to others". And so ends my tale. The remaining Duo230 stayed with the handsome prince. He finds rare and wonderful accessories with which he lets the 230 play. "Now I'm off to the recycler to see if there are any other Duo goodies to rescue" the prince told the inhabitants in the land of DuoList.
