I use an AsanteTalk - localtalk to ethernet adapter. You can just connect to
the serial/localtalk port on the Duo as is - no big dock, no minidock. It's
a bit slow, but then how big are your word processing files? My new ethernet
equipped Macs can access the 'ol SE, Classic, Duo and ImageWriter with ease.
The old machines can also access my DSL connection. Manufacturer's specs can
be found at <http://www.asante.com/product/adapters/MicroAP.html>.
Dayna used to make a similar product which I've seen used selling for under
$30. It's bigger than the Asante and Dayna is no longer in business, but it
should still meet your needs. As far as simplicity goes though, I can vouch
that the Asante product works great.
Let me know if you're seriously considering the SCSI to ethernet route. I
believe I have a few of those devices sitting in a box somewhere. They do
get the job done.
