I picked up two Farallon PhoneNet adapters at a thrift store for a buck.
I remember using them a long time ago in an office I worked for that ran
on compacts Macs.
Haven't tried them yet, but don't they work the same as the AsanteTalk?
They may have more of these at the particular thrift store, and if they
do I'll pick up an extra one for ya.
Walter may know, but do either the Asante or Farallon products need
drivers?
