My quirkiness revealed (resurrection of an old Powerlist post): The late lamented WriteNow 4 is still a superb WP program--compact (less than 1 mb total install, under 400kb for the app), superbly, unbelievably BLAZINGLY FAST on any PB (whether 68k or PPC), PB optimized and suitable for 90 pct of one's needs. It imports/exports a variety of file types including RTF and is much more versatile than a text editor. If you are in a ram challenged/ram disk/power conservation mode, do find/replace often, there is none better (500 pages for reformat or find/replace are unbelievably fast--just a few seconds!). I've tried various versions of Word, AppW, WP, Nisus, Mariner Write etc. but WN still beats them all for basic writing. Unfortunately it is no longer published but still runs fine on everything from a PB100-Sys5 up to any G3-OS9+. There is also a 3rd party add-on for tool bar modernization--check out this link. http://www.kagi.com/MacEase/WriteNow-latest_info.html I also admit to owning MS Word/Office'98 and, while bloated, it is not nearly as deserving of all the MS bashing/antipathy as it seems to attract. If you are are against MS, then WN is the perfect anti-establishment guerilla product. For Duos it would be perfect. Ram footprint is as small as 400k and it is PB/battery optimized--even perfect for a ram disk (I've done hours of writing on airplanes). My search/wait for WN's spiritual successor remains unrequited. BTW there was also a NeXT version of WN as Steve Jobs seemed to have been a fan of WN as well. Maybe with OSX in some recombinant form??? There are still some big fans out there... --- Sidney Ho ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
