Try resetting the Power Manager as follows:

Remove the battery and AC.

On the back of the Duo, hold down the power (reset) button for 45 seconds.

Put the battery back in, plug in the AC and hit the power key above the
keyboard.

When it boots, check to see if you date and time are correct. If you have to
keep resetting this you likely have a dead PRAM battery which is creating
the startup difficulties.

One more thing you can do is zap the PRAM. To do this, start the Duo up from
off with the usual power key above the keyboard.

Immediately hold down these four keys: Option;Command;p;r

Hold them down until the Duo give you the startup tone 3 times.

This will basically reset the Duos (or any Macs) startup and finder/system
preferences so you may have to re-apply things like the alert sound, text
highlight color etc. Nothing significant.

Let us know if this works out.
