I love it. Besides being cute (what is it about tiny
things that makes them appealing?-- guess that's why I
bought a subnotebook to begin with), and
cosmetically-compatible with the Duo (although the 56K
is black instead of Duo-graphite like the 33.6K), it's
the best-performing data modem I've owned, producing
consistent connections between 49.33-50.67K on my
phone lines. I even used it with my Wall Street until
late last year when Apple finally introduced a modem
update that worked. Since the Duo has only a 56K
serial port, throughput is not as good as with the
Wall Street, but far better than any internal Duo
modem.

I do not have the optional power adapter, and have not
been able to find one that works (uses an uncommon
voltage). Without it you must have a micro- or
mini-dock with an ADB port for power. The cable has a
pass-through if you're also using an external keyboard
or mouse. The biggest annoyance I've had is that
there's no way to print when it's attached, but that's
true on any external modem outside a dock with
separate printer and modem ports.

After two years, the internal speaker (which I'm
guessing is one of those solid-state buzzers and not
an acoustic speaker) no longer works, but that hasn't
affected the modem's operability. 3Jtech's
documentation translations are unintentionally
humorous, and their support site is odd to navigate,
but it is not difficult to figure out how to use the
modem. With Open Transport you install the CCL and
select the modem and port in the Modem control panel
and you're good. There are probably a few more
complexities with FreePPP and I've never tried that.
