Ah, that mac was particualarly flakey. It has some bad PCI bus timing 
issues that wouls cause it to just lock up. I was able to get the one 
where I work to be more stable by sticking with 8.6 and making sure 
virtual memory was off. However that mac is always gonna have 
troubbles. It logicbard is the same as the one in the PowerMac 6500, 
and the 6500 was plauged by motherboard issues. I've seen 6500 just 
stop working.

I'd realy try to run 9.x and higher only on native G3 systems and 
better. Stick with 8.6 on anything older, even if it has been 
upgraded to a g3 or g4.
